It’s been exactly a year since Rita Wilson, 64, and Tom Hanks, 64, were hospitalised for Covid-19 and the actress couldn’t be more “grateful” for their good health now. The pair fell ill while in Australia as Tom filmed for the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, and were hospitalised after contracting the illness.

I want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for our health

They were two of the first Hollywood celebrities to announce they were Covid positive.

Since fully recovering, the 64-year-old actress and singer said she is thankful for their health, noting not everyone who has had a run in with the virus has been so lucky.

Taking to Instagram to make the one year anniversary, she explained: “One year ago today I was playing the Sydney Opera House @sydneyoperahouse, the next day started feeling very tired and achy, two days later hospitalized with Covid 19.

“I want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for our health, how thankful we are for the medical care we got in Queensland, and that we share in the sorrow of each person who lost a loved one to this virus.

“I’m hopeful for so many being able to get the vaccine. (sic)”

Fans of the pair rushed to the comments section to applaud her tributes to the medical teams in Oz, while thanking their lucky stars they made it through.

“Thank you for your kind words to the medical team in Queensland who assisted you and Mr Hanks,” one wrote.

Someone else added: “So glad my fellow work colleagues took care of you both! Thanks for thinking of us all that work on the frontline love from Australia.”

Another wrote: “I can’t imagine how scary that was. I adore you and I’m so happy you’re healthy and here to make music with us to share with the WORLD.”

“I remember that day. It was really scary and I’m really happy that you and Tom feeling good and healthy today. God bless you guys. Love,” a fourth penned.

A fifth agreed: “So glad you both got through it. Love you both as artists. The best!”

The post comes after Tom recently insisted he and Rita will be waiting to get their vaccine against coronavirus until all those who “truly” need it have received it.

In December, the Forrest Gump actor said: “We’ll be getting it long after everybody who truly needs to get it.

“But yes, OK, we had it and it was a tough couple of 10 days. But I think what’s much more important is the second half of the COVID-19 formula, that we didn’t give it to anybody.

“Locking down, we wear masks, and we still do – Not just so that we don’t catch it but that you don’t give it to somebody in case you are one of those asymptomatic carriers.”

Tom broke the news that he and his wife had come down with the deadly virus back in March 2020.

He posted on social media at the time: “Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

“Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

“We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves! Hanx!”(sic)

They were both inundated with prayers and well-wishes from fans across world and they kept true to their word, posting daily updates for their followers to let them know they were doing OK.
