I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 newcomer Ruthie Henshall revealed that Prince Charles and his brother Prince Edward played a hilarious prank on her, while they were enjoying a trip to a loch in Scotland.
The actress – who will be heading to Gwrych Castle tonight alongside singer Russell Watson – previously revealed on Desert Island Discs in 2008 that she had dated Prince Edward on and off for over five years.
During their time together, Ruthie recalled a particular prank that the royal brothers pulled which left her screaming in shock.
Ahead of her appearance on the ITV show, the musical theatre actress revealed in her ITV interview that the trio had enjoyed an outing to Scotland during which Prince Charles and Prince Edward told the star that the location was haunted.
While the trio were enjoying a “cook-out”, Ruthie was forced to use a candle when she headed to the bathroom because there wasn’t any electricity.
The cheeky royals then decided to give Ruthie a fright by jumping out at her from the darkness.
“They told me there were ghosts in this particular place and when I went the toilet with a candle – as there was no electricity – they waited for me to come out and then jumped out on me,” Ruthie explained.
She continued: “I screamed the place down! They were hilarious.”
Knowing that she would be unable to continue as an actress if their romance continued, the I’m A Celebrity contestant eventually parted ways with the royal. However, the pair are said to have remained good friends.
The actress went on to marry singer Tim Howar and they welcomed two daughters together before their divorce in 2009.
Ruthie also suggested that she believed the royals love their reality television just as much as the rest of us.
She added: “I have no idea whether they watch [I’m A Celebrity] or not.
“But I am sure they enjoy reality TV as much as the rest of us! I’m really looking forward to going in.”
In her entry interview, Ruthie also went on to reveal that she had no idea the show would be filmed in Wales when she first signed up to the show.
TV bosses were forced to move the show from its usual tropical location in Australia for the blustery weather of Wales as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite a dramatic change in climate, the actress didn’t appear too phased that producers switched up the location for a haunted castle.
“At the time, I had no idea when I said yes it would be in Wales.”
She continued: “But in actual fact I think it’s brilliant that it’s in Wales. I think it’s brilliant that this British show that is so loved by the audiences has come home, be it for how long, we don’t know. It may be for one year.”

Ruthie will become the latest contestant to enter in the hit ITV show alongside opera star Russell Watson.
Both new entrants appear to have a fear of enclosed spaces and are confident they will be the camp clown.
While Ruthie and Russell both come with a certain confidence after appearing on stage, it remains to be seen how confident they’ll be should they face a terrifying Bushtucker Trial.
As a result of the new additions, there are now 12 contestants battling it out to win the I’m A Celebrity crown.
