Sean Penn Legally Single After Finalizing Divorce From Leila George Following 15-Month Marriage

Prior to finalizing his divorce from the Australian actress, the ‘Mystic River’ star blames himself for their split, admitting that he ‘was a very neglectful guy.’

AceShowbizSean Penn is officially back on the single market. The Jimmy Markum depicter in “Mystic River” is legally single after he finalized his divorce from his wife Leila George following their 15-month marriage.

According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, the “Licorice Pizza” actor and Leila finalized their divorce on Friday, April 21. The Oscar-winning actor and the daughter of actor Vincent D’Onofrio dated for four years before tying the knot in July 2020. Last October, the Australian actress filed for divorce.

During an interview with Hollywood Authentic earlier this month, Sean blamed himself for their separation. “I only see [her] on a day-to-day basis now, because I f**ked up the marriage. We were married technically for one year, but for five years, I was a very neglectful guy,” the 61-year-old actor admitted.

“I was not a f**king cheat or any of that obvious s**t,” Sean insisted that he wasn’t unfaithful. “The Gunman” actor later explained, “But I allowed myself to think that my place in so many other things was so important, and that included my place in being totally depressed and driven to alcohol and Ambien at 11 o’clock in the morning, by watching the news, by watching the [Donald Trump] era, by watching it and just despairing.”

Sean further said, “And as it turns out, this is going to shock you, beautiful, incredibly kind, imaginative, talented young women who get married to a man quite senior to them in years, they don’t actually love it when they get up from their peaceful night’s sleep and their new husband is on the couch, having been up since four, watching all of the crap that’s going on in the world and has decided that 10:30 in the morning is a good time to neck a double vodka tonic and an Ambien and say, ‘Good morning, honey. I’m going to pass out for a few hours and get away from all this s**t.’ ” He noted, “As it turns out, women as described, they don’t love that.”

Sean went on to say that he “doesn’t know” what the future will hold for him and Leila but he said he’s worked on what he sees as the problems with himself during their relationship. “Now, when I wash the dishes, I don’t answer my phone,” the “Flag Day” star shared. “If I’m with my wife for a day, I don’t have my phone on, even though I’m juggling a lot of things.”

“I don’t juggle them better by taking more calls. I can have my phone off and not watch the news for 12 hours now,” Sean explained. “And even when I’m stressed, I’m never stressed the way I used to be. Because we’ve all had our hearts broken at some point.”
