Simon Cowell ‘walking around’ days after breaking his back in bike accident

Simon Cowell has wasted no time in his recovery, with sources claiming the TV star is already ‘walking around’ just days after breaking his back in an electric back accident.

The X Factor boss suffered back injuries and required surgery after falling off an electric bike while testing it out at his Malibu, California home on Saturday.

Despite having an operation, Simon, 60, is said to be making big strides in quite literally getting back on his feet.

‘He’s in good spirits and knows he had a lucky escape and that this could have been worse,’ a source told the Mail Online.

‘He’s doing really well considering everything.

‘He’s been walking around already, obviously he has to be careful, which is expected considering surgery was only one day ago.’

The insider went on to reveal that Simon’s even started working again and was replying to emails on his iPad.

They added: ‘He’s in good spirits and knows he had a lucky escape and that this could have been worse.’

Yesterday, Simon spoke out for the first time since the terrifying accident and couldn’t resist cracking a joke at his own expense.

‘Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time,’ he quipped.

On more of a serious note, he went on: ‘I have broken part of my back.

‘Thank you to everyone for your kind messages. And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.

‘Stay safe everyone.’

His injuries could have been more serious, with the break happening less than a centimetre away from his spinal cord.

As a result of the accident, it was confirmed that he won’t be present at the America’s Got Talent live shows, which are due to kick off on Tuesday.

Instead, Kelly Clarkson has announced she will be stepping in for her friend and shared a witty statement which said: ‘My friend, Simon Cowell, is doing better now but was in accident and won’t be able to make Tuesdays and Wednesdays live shows for AGT, but no worries America, someone far wiser, cooler, and hotter is taking his seat!

‘The unbelievably amazing Kelly Clarkson! You’re welcome in advance.’
