Both Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse gave the couple sevens, while head judge Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke awarded them with eights.

John regularly features as a celebrity chef on the star’s Channel 4 lunch show.

Replying to his friend, John wrote: “I’m shook. Absolutely shook.”

Steph replied: “OUTSTANDING.”

Packed Lunch chef Romy Gill wrote: “So proud of him @stephlunch.”

Following their performance this evening, John took to Instagram to tell his 131,000 followers how proud he was of his dance partner.

The chef wrote: “Seeing this guy’s reaction to our dance tonight made every single ache and pain worth it. @johannesradebe you are a king.”

John and Johannes gave one of the stand-out performances of the night with their intense version of a tango to New Order’s Blue Monday.

The couple are currently second on the Strictly leaderboard, being overtaken only by AJ Odudu and her partner Kai Widdrington.

Adam Peaty and Katya Jones are joint second with the former Bake Off star while Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu are third.

Following their incredible performance, dance pro Johannes was overcome with emotion and was left in tears after the dance.

After receiving high praise from all four judges, the star broke down before embracing the Bake Off star.

Earlier today John apologised to his fans, revealing that he wouldn’t be smiling when he took to the dance floor.

Due to the nature of the dance, John revealed he has created an alter ego named Dante, to keep him in character.

Speaking from his bed this morning, he began by telling his Instagram followers he was feeling fresh after an 11-hour sleep.

After revealing that he was “nervous as hell”, John said that he was going to “go out there and smile”.

However he quickly backtracked, explaining: “I can’t smile actually because I’m Dante, the tango master,” he said, changing his voice to a deep tone.
