Steph McGovern reveals she’s had to have her wedding ring CUT OFF by the fire brigade after her finger tripled in size when she slammed it in a door

Steph McGovern rushed to have one of her rings cut off of her hand by the fire brigade on Friday after her finger tripled in size.

The emergancy began after the Channel 4 presenter accidentally slammed her finger in a door frame, which caused it to turn purple and dramatically swell.

‘Eventful morning…..started with trip to @FireHarrogate to get a ring cut off swollen finger I’d trapped in door,’ Steph confessed on Twitter alongside a series of images.

Before heading to the fire station, Steph attempted to use hot water and soap, and a piece of ice and a ribbon to free her hand from the ring.

But after multiple failed attempts and plenty of Googling for other tactics she called the Harrogate fire station who told her to come and see them for help.

The fire service then used a ring cutter to get the troublesome silver band dislodged from her rapidly growing finger.

‘Thanks so much to Matt @TurnerTurner11, Lisa @Arcticwolf31, Dave + James for sorting it out!’ the presenter gushed of her heroes on Twitter.

‘Straight after had to take my daughter for first ever day at nursery,’ reflected the mother-of-one on the chaotic morning.

To the rescue: After many failed attempts at freeing herself the presenter called the Harrogate fire station who told her to come and see them for help and released her with a ring cutter

A source told The Sun: ‘Poor Steph was horrified to see her finger swelling by the minute.’

‘She was a bit embarrassed, but everyone was so lovely. It made a change from getting cats out of trees and, well, fighting fires,’ said the source.

The painful incident comes after Steph admitted earlier this year that she’d told a cheeky lie about her TV experience in order to get a job on BBC Breakfast.

The presenter, 38, joined the morning show in 2010 and stayed until she left to work with Channel 4 in 2019.

Revealing her fib on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Wednesday, she explained that she didn’t tell her employers until 10 seconds before going on air for the first time.

Speaking candidly, Steph told guest Chris Kamara: ‘I remember when I got the job of presenting Breakfast news, I’d been asked, “Have you ever done live TV before?” And I said yes… and I hadn’t.’

Laughing off the white lie, she added: ‘You’ve got to blag it sometimes in life and I told them 10 seconds before we went to air.’

Steph explained that her first time on air for the show was with Susanna Reid, with it being a big shock to the director when she made the revelation.

What a tale: Revealing her fib on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Wednesday, she explained that she didn’t tell her employers until 10 seconds before going on air for the first time

‘I’ve got a count in my ear now and it was a bit like this… Susanna Reid said “Good luck” and I said “Thanks”, she said, “But you’ve done live TV before?”

‘And I said, “No I haven’t” and the director gasped in my ear’, Steph admitted.

Since working on BBC Breakfast, Steph as appeared on several shows including Shop Well For Less, Have I Got News For You and Watchdog.

The journalist is now hosting her own show – Steph’s Packed Lunch – which sees her chat to a range of stars including Katie Price, Maureen Lipman and Oti Mabuse.
