JJ Chalmers has revealed he's been in agonising pain after a piece of shrapnel embedded in his leg from a bomb blast in Afghanistan became infected.
The 33 year old, who recently bonded with his dancing partner Amy Dowden over their health, has been managing the pain after being caught in the explosion but it flared up once more in the past week.
Despite the injury, the Strictly Come Dancing star has vowed not to allow it to stop him from doing the Viennese Waltz with 30 year old Amy.

“Whilst there's a level of pain and sensitivity with it, it's not anything I'm not used to," he bravely told MirrorOnline. "These are just the genuine side effects of being alive, that's the simplest way I can put it, enduring some level of pain."
JJ, who recently shared a peak inside his home he shares with his wife and two children, went on to explain that he will continue on with the programme until the discomfort reaches an unbearable point.
He said: "Until it gets to you know, an unbearable point or a really discomforting point, I'm not going to allow it to stop me doing what I love doing. And right now that's dancing.

"But on the flip side, it might seem quite alarming to people that I've done most of this competition with an infection in my leg but that's just the reality of what happens with this particular piece of shrapnel until they remove it.”
The former royal marine and Invictus Games medallist found himself on foot patrol in Helman province when an Improvised Explosive Device went off.
Speaking about the incident, he previously told Metro.co.uk: "Every time you stepped out the front door of one of your checkpoints, you were just surrounded by these these deadly indiscriminate weapons."

He then explained: "Unfortunately, one of my friends stepped on one of these devices, the blast went off underneath his feet, and all the rubbish that gets thrown off of these IEDs are buried in the ground, just came my way and it just pulverised my body."
JJ was so injured that he was put into a medically-induced coma and flown back to the UK.
The star suffered multiple injuries including a crushed eye socket, burst ear drums, broken neck, a destroyed elbow, and missing fingers.
