Katya Jones, 31, and her Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner Nicola Adams, 38, have been forced to quit this year’s series. Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, 49, has since offered her heartfelt wishes to Katya following the news.

It comes after the Russian-born dance champion tested positive for coronavirus.

The dancing duo were the BBC show’s first same-sex pairing and the pair are said to be isolating separately following the news.

Katya is “asymptomatic” and is believed to be showing no symptoms from the virus.

GMB host Susanna admitted it was a “shame” to see both Nicola and Katya leave the dance competition.

The former Strictly contestant, who competed on the series in 2013, has taken to Twitter and shared her thoughts.

In view of her 773,000 Twitter followers, Susanna retweeted an official statement from Strictly’s official account.

The TV anchor tweeted: “This is such a shame for Nicola and Katya – and for the whole show too. Get well soon Katya.”

It is believed that Katya has not been experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms but reportedly told BBC bosses she is unsure how she contracted the virus.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed to Express.co.uk: “Nicola Adams and Katya Jones are to leave Strictly Come Dancing after Katya tested positive for COVID-19.

“Katya is asymptomatic and the pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

“As part of the protocols outlined ahead of the series, this sadly means they will no longer be able to take part in the competition.”

Olympian Nicola took to Twitter and shared her disappointment leaving the show.
