The Young And The Restless star Kristoff St John died of heart disease
The Young And The Restless star Kristoff St John died of complications from heart disease after a booze binge, according to a coroner's report.
The actor died last month aged 52 and his body was found at his home in California's San Fernando valley.
The Los Angeles Coroner's Office has now ruled the death accidental and revealed St John died from hypertrophic heart disease.
The condition makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood throughout the body.
According to TMZ.com , the autopsy report states the actor had been discharged from a mental health facility just two days before his death.
The website also reports he'd been suffering from depression stemming from his son Julian's suicide in 2014.
Julian St John died while getting treatment at a mental health facility in Long Beach and Kristoff blamed the hospital for his son's death, claiming they gave him the item he used to take his life.
The actor filed a wrongful death lawsuit against La Casa Mental Health Hospital.
In court documents, he alleged that nurses had falsified patient reports by logging welfare checks to his room after Julian had been pronounced dead.
Kristoff was placed in a 72-hour hold for psychiatric evaluation by police around the anniversary of his son's death in 2017, after threatening to shoot himself with a gun.
He and his ex-wife Mia St John set up the El Saber es Poder (Knowledge is Power) Foundation to help others battling mental health problems to honour their son.
Kristoff played Neil Winters on the soap since 1991 and won nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his role.
