Australian Open winner Ashleigh Barty has shared a rare insight into her relationship with fiancé Garry Kissick. In a new interview, the sportswoman, 25, gushed over her husband-to-be and professional golfer Garry, telling Vogue magazine about how much he supports her as she partakes in tennis competitions around the world.
He’s kind of been thrown in the very deep end in understanding what the tour is like
The Australian tennis pro admitted that despite being together for six years, Garry initially knew little about her sport.
She said: “He’s extremely patient with me, and when we met he didn’t know a lot about tennis.”
Ashleigh continued to explain that he’s had to accept that they will be away for long periods of time due to her sporting schedule.
“He’s kind of been thrown in the very deep end in understanding what the tour is like and how much we’re apart,” she added.
However, the sportswoman continued to tell how he brings out the “fun” side in her, despite them facing these challenges as a couple.
Ashleigh said: “[But] he’s the best person to have around in the sense of switching off from tennis and being able to bring the fun and laughter.
“I certainly wouldn’t want to share this journey with anyone else,” she confessed.
The tennis star announced her engagement to Garry in November last year.
Sharing a love up snap of her and her beau, Ash looked thrilled after accepting the proposal.
She captioned the picture: “Future Husband,” alongside a ring and heart emoji.
While smiling and cuddling up to her partner, the women’s world number one showed off her stunning diamond ring while resting her hand affectionately on Garry’s chest.
Her fiancé also shared the images to his Instagram page, revealing that they got engaged a week before on November 15.
He penned: “15/11/2021 love you @ashbarty.”
Ashleigh’s comments come six months after Garry put on a sweet show of support ahead of her Wimbledon win.
The professional golfer posted a cosy snap of the couple at Wimbledon, ahead of her match against Czech player Karolina Pliskova.
In view of his 3,000 Instagram followers, the golfing professional wished her luck.
