Tom Cruise's explosive rant has crew members 'walking on eggshells'

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7 crew members are now ‘walking on eggshells’ after he lashed out at over breached COVID-19 guidelines

Tom Cruise made headlines on December 15 when audio of him lashing out at Mission: Impossible 7 crew members over breached COVID-19 guidelines went viral.

Though he seemed to have good intentions when he laid into at least two crew members on Mission: Impossible – Lybra – who were reportedly standing too close to each other at a computer and not adhering social distancing guidelines – the 58-year-old actor handled himself in a way that rattled the set.

The profanity-filled rant has instilled fear on set, as a source told Us Weekly, that the crew has been ‘walking on eggshells,’ ever since Cruise unloaded on them.

‘They believe it had a lot to do with his ego. Good intentions aside, he didn’t need to rant and rave the way he did,’ said a source.

Reportedly investing $665K of his own money to house crew members during the Rome-based shoot on cruise ships, the actor was ‘actually appalled anyone would jeopardize filming with an act of such sheer stupidity,’ the source said.

The first major box office production to start shooting amid the pandemic, Cruise’s tirade came from a place of fear-induced stress though many took issue with the ballistic delivery on his part.

‘According to him, there’s no margin for error, especially when so many other productions have been shut down,’ the insider added.

Tom Cruise’s Rant Transcript

‘We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of US!! Because they believe in us and WHAT we’re DOING!! I’m on the phone with every f***ing studio at night. INSURANCE COMPANIES!! PRODUCERS!! And they’re looking at us, and using us to make their movies.’

‘We are creating THOUSANDS of JOBS, you motherf***ers!’

‘I don’t EVER WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN!! EVER!! And if you don’t do it, you’re fired! If I see you do it again, you’re f***ing gone. And anyone on this crew does it, THAT’S IT! And you, too. And you, too. And you. If you ever do it again, that’s it.’

‘No apologies. You can tell it to the people who are losing their f***ing homes because our INDUSTRY is shut down. It’s not gonna put FOOD ON THEIR TABLE, or pay for their COLLEGE EDUCATION. THAT’S what I sleep with every night. The FUTURE of this F***ING INDUSTRY!! So, I’m sorry, but I am beyond your apologies. I have told you and now I want it and if you DON’T do it, you’re OUT!’

‘We are not shutting this F***ING MOVIE DOWN!!’

‘Is it understood? If I see it again, you’re f***ing gone. And so are you. So YOU’RE gonna cost him HIS job. If I see it on the set, YOU’RE gone, and YOU’RE gone. That’s it. Am I clear? Do you understand what I want? Do you understand the responsibility that you have?’

‘Because I will deal with your reason. And if you can’t be reasonable, and if I can’t deal with your logic, you’re fired. That’s it. That is it. I trust you guys to be here. That’s it. That’s it, guys.’

‘That’s what I’m thinking about. That’s what I’m doing today. I’m talking to Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros. Movies are going because of us. We shut down, it’s going to cost people their f***ing jobs, their homes, their family—that’s what’s happening. All the way down the line.’

‘And I care about you guys. But if you’re not going to help me, you’re gone. OK? Do you see that stick? How many meters is that? When people are standing around a f***ing computer and hanging out around here, what are you doing?’

Sources continued to tell People magazine in defense of Cruise’s outburst, he ‘is a perfectionist and he wants others to follow suit. Tom’s whole life is his work. When he seems something less than professional he wants to make it right.’

The insider continued, ‘It’s hard to [describe] how incredibly intense and focused he is on making every movie the absolute best possible. The Mission Impossible movies are ‘his’ movies. Tom helped set up the COVID protocol. Of course he takes it personally when the protocol is broken.’

‘He is usually just laser-focused on filming. This movie is very different, though. He has to film while making sure everyone stays safe.’

The big budget movie which has filmed in Italy, Norway and England has had to stop down twice this year due to the pandemic, most recently in October when several crew members tested positive.

‘He feels the pressure of how scary things look now,’ the industry source continues. ‘He does not want any further disruption. There is a lot at stake.’

George Clooney defended his pal’s actions as he said, people ‘have to be responsible,’ both on and off set, while former Scientologist Leah Remini – who has criticized his continued involvement in the church – called it a ‘publicity stunt.’

The movie is currently set for release in November 2021.
