Wale Gets Formal Apology From American Airlines Following Alleged Racism

The ‘Bad’ rapper previously called out the airline on Twitter, protesting about two flight attendants who questioned him when he was sitting on the first class seat.

Rapper Wale has received a formal apology from airline bosses after he was allegedly questioned by staff about taking a first class plane seat.

The “Bad” hitmaker, who hails from Washington, D.C., was booked on an American Airlines flight to Los Angeles on Sunday evening, September 16, when the departure time was delayed after passengers had already boarded.

Everyone was asked to return to the terminal as maintenance work was carried out, and when customers returned to the plane, Wale claimed he was confronted by two airline officials, who threatened him with police action after insisting he was in the wrong seat.

He initially took to Twitter to vent about being “stuck on the runway AGAIN”, and when an airline representative apologized for the delay, he called out the two staff members who had reportedly been rude to him.

“How about ur employees Megumi and Don told me ‘ur not supposed to be in first class I’m calling the police (sic)’,” he replied.

Wale did not offer up any further details online, but now American Airlines executives have launched an investigation into the incident and issued a statement of apology to the hip-hop star.

A company official told Essence.com an “IT issue” was to blame, as his name did not show up on the air stewards’ seat records for the flight after reboarding, even though he was sitting in the “correct seat.”

“We just want to apologize to Wale for what really occurred here,” the representative continued, insisting they want to welcome Wale back onboard for his future travels.

“He’s a good customer of ours. He flies with us regularly. We really just want to apologize profusely,” the spokesperson added.

Wale has yet to comment on the airline representative’s response.
