Who Is Former 'Basketball Wives' Star Matt Barnes Ex, Anansa Sims?
After a seemingly happy relationship, retired NBA star Matt Barnes and supermodel Anansa Sims have called it quits. The two dated and shared a blended family for two years.
Fans followed their love affair on Instagram through their candid family moments. Sims won’t have a hard time moving on as she has the beauty and brains to get the attention of any man she chooses.
Matt Barnes and Anansa Sims split after two years together
Rumors of Barnes’s relationship with Sims first spread when social media stalkers noticed a very pregnant Sims and Barnes getting flirty under each other’s photos. They confirmed their relationship and had been dating a little under a year.
They met at UCLA but reconnected and began dating. The couple hosted a UCLA basketball themed baby shower and revealed they were expecting a boy. They blended their families – Sims has three children from a previous marriage – Barnes has two.
They welcomed a son, Ashton, in 2018. No one knew of their breakup until The Shade Room captured Sims’s updated Instagram profile bio.
A source told the gossip site that Barnes is the one who broke it off. “Anansa’s an amazing mother and woman and [he] wishes her nothing but the best, he has a tendency of putting everyone else’s happiness in front of his, and has finally decided to put his own happiness first,” the source stated.
The details of their breakup are scarce but according to the source, their main focus is co-parenting their toddler son.
Barnes was previously married to Basketball Wives star, Gloria Govan, and appeared on the VH1 reality series with her for four seasons. Sims was previously married to former NFL baller, David Patterson.
Who is Anansa Sims?
Sims is the daughter of supermodel, Beverly Johnson. Like her famous mom, she works as a model within the plus-sized modeling industry. Before transitioning into the modeling world, Sims worked as a financial analyst. She became bored with work and wanted a creative outlet. With her striking beauty and frame, she decided to switch paths and followed in her mom’s footsteps.
Sims contacted Wilhelmina modeling agency’s plus-size department and set up a meeting. After taking her measurements, scouts were happy with her and offered her a contract. She’s one of is the eight models who posed naked for Glamour US in their Nov. 2009 edition. Other career highlights for Sims includes her creations of a plus-size line of clothes, with a focus on swimwear and jeans.
Sims has also posed alongside her mother in various campaigns and in magazine spreads. They had their own reality series on OWN. Beverly’s Full House followed the mother-daughter duo as they worked to rebuild their oftentimes rocky relationship. Sims and her husband lived with Johnson as they raised their infant daughter. The show aired for one season.
Johnson was a champion of her daughter’s relationship with Barnes. She doted over him in many of her Instagram posts.
Sims and Patterson married in 2010 and divorced in 2017. Their wedding was featured in Essence Magazine. They currently have a cordial co-parenting relationship.
