Amazon’s Making the Cut With Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum Is Finally (Almost) Here

They’re baaaackkkkkkk

After announcing their departure from their long-running reality TV show, Project Runway, iconic host duo Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum are finally returning to the small screen. This time, it’s Making the Cut, Amazon Prime Video’s sleek, diverse, and (very) expensive-looking venture to discover “the next big global brand,” as Gunn puts it in the trailer.

The show features 12 designers of a variety of ages, backgrounds, and experience, all competing to win a million-dollar investment prize in their brand as well as the chance to launch a line exclusively on Amazon Fashion. We’ll see them facing challenges and assignments in New York, Paris, and Tokyo, with the cities serving as inspiration and beautiful backgrounds (as you can see in the trailer).

Of course, as was the case with Project Runway, the show includes big-name guest judges. The trailer shows off Naomi Campbell (here for her quips), Chiara Ferragni (a.k.a. The Blonde Salad and the O.G. influencer), Nicole Richie, Joseph Altuzarra, and Carine Roitfeld.

Making the Cut 3

The show drops tomorrow, so if you’re itching for details, read on to find out more on Making the Cut — including how to watch it and details on the cast.

Where and how can I watch the show?

Making the Cut 6

The show debuts on Amazon Prime Video, and Prime members can watch every episode for free. If you’re not a Prime member, you can still sign up for a 30-day free trial to catch the show, and your free trial will also give you access to all of Amazon’s other Prime-exclusive services.

When does it air?

Making the Cut 2

Two new episodes drop every Friday, starting with the premiere tomorrow. There will be 10 episodes in total, and the five-week event ends on April 24 — with the final episode unveiling just who will win the million-dollar prize and the exclusive chance to launch a line via Amazon Fashion.

Who are the contestants?

Making the Cut 7

Making the Cut features 12 designers from diverse backgrounds, with ages ranging from 24 to 64 and hometowns as far and wide as Milan, Shanghai, Seoul, and New York City. First up is Sander Bos, 24, from Hasselt, Belgium, who runs his namesake avant-garde line. He’s followed by Rinat Brodach, 35 and Ji Won Choi, 26, both based in New York City. Brodach’s minimalist-chic, gender-free designs have been worn by Billy Porter, Laverne Cox, and Adam Lambert, while Choi’s namesake brand has collaborated with Adidas (with pieces worn by Beyoncé and Kendall Jenner).

Alongside them are Jasmine Chong, 31, from New York City, and Jonny Cota, 35, from Los Angeles. Chong runs her self-titled line taking inspiration from her seamstress grandmother and fashion-designer mother, and has shown at NYFW. Cota, who has also shown at NYFW five times, owns streetwear label Skingraft, and has dressed celebs such as Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé.

Making the Cut 4

Chong and Cota are followed by Martha Gottwald, 28, from Virginia, Troy Hul Arnold, 34, and Joshua Hupper, 38. Gottwald’s womenswear brand Neubyrne has been featured in British Vogue, and has a focus on color and whimsicality. Arnold, an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design, owns his namesake brand that features minimalist, avant-garde menswear in New York City. Hupper runs Babyghost, a line that features youthful, feminine RTW designs from his base in Shanghai, China.

The show also includes Will Riddle, 31, from New York City, who was the atelier director at Oscar de la Renta, 3.1 Philip Lim, and now Kith. He's had an impressive resume, and is looking to start his own namesake brand. He’s followed by Esther Perbandt, 43, from Berlin, who has been running her eponymous line that features menswear-inspired pieces for the past 15 years.

Making the Cut 1

Rounding out the cast are Sabato Russo, 64, from Milan, and Megan Smith, 38, based in Los Angeles. Sabato is the most seasoned designer of the crew, with a 25-year career in the industry. Smith, who was born and raised in Kansas City, has designed private label pieces for major brands and retailers, and now runs her own line Megan Renee.

We honestly can’t wait to relish in all the drama, designs, and darting jokes from Gunn again. Catch Making the Cut on Amazon Prime Video starting tomorrow.
