Bobby Ball has died after contracting coronavirus, the statement said. The much-loved comedian passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital last night.

A statement was released on behalf of his wife Yvonne, his family and his comedy partner Tommy Cannon.

It said: “Bobby had been taken to the hospital for tests as he started with breathing problems. At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19.

“His wife Yvonne said the hospital and staff could not have been more wonderful, as they were outstanding in their care of duty and they did everything possible for him and she cannot praise them enough.

“She said that the family and Tommy would like to express their sincere thanks to the many, many people who have been fans of Bobby and they know that they will all share in part the great loss and total sadness that Yvonne, the family and Tommy all feel.

“Yvonne added that their need for privacy at this time has to be a priority.

“No further announcements or statements will be made.”

The comedian has an estimated fortune of around £2.3million, according to FactsFive.

The actor was born as Robert Harper in Oldham, Lancashire.

He became best known for his stage name Bobby Ball and formed a comedy duo with Tommy Cannon.

The pair hosted The Cannon and Ball Show on ITV from 1979 to 1988.

The comedy variety show ran for nine years and had a prime time Saturday night slot.

As well as his skills as a comedian, Bobby had many roles as an actor.

Along with Tommy, he starred in the 1982 film The Boys in Blue.

He also added to his fortune with a recurring role in the BBC sitcom Not Going Out.

Bobby also had roles in BBC’s Last of the Summer Wine, Mount Pleasant and ITV’s The Security Men.

After becoming born again Christians in 1986, Bobby and Tommy published the book Christianity for Beginners.

During his career, he showed off his knowledge by taking part in two episodes of Pointless Celebrities.

In 2005, he took part in place on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

During his series, Bobby was sixth to be eliminated from the jungle.
