Eagle-eyes fans spot Meghan Markle breaking royal protocol at the Fashion Awards

Meghan Markle delighted fans with a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards last night.

The Duchess of Sussex looked stunning in a floor length, one shoulder gown and her hair slicked back in her classic bun.

Meghan presented the British Designer of the Year Womenswear Award to Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, her wedding dress designer.

But as she cradled her growing baby bump, eagle-eyed royal watchers spotted something about the duchess’ outfit which is considered a no-no in the royal family.

Meghan was spotted wearing dark nail polish – which is widely considered to be against royal etiquette.

The Queen reportedly considers coloured nail varnish to be "vulgar" and has worn the same shade of nail polish for over 30 years – a £7.99 bottle of Essie’s ‘Ballet Slippers’ shade .

Meghan, who according to her own father likes to ‘bend the rules’ sported dark burgundy nails for the event at the Royal Albert Hall.

But she has eschewed nail polish on her previous royal engagements.

Meghan opted for nude nails when she announced her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017.

On her wedding day at Windsor Castle in May this year, Harry slipped a wedding ring onto his new wife’s perfectly pale pink manicured finger.

At Prince Charles 70th birthday garden party at Buckingham Palace later the same month, newlywed Meghan flashed her nude nails as she stifled a giggle.
