Googlebox producers have revealed what they are looking for when it comes to new families joining the show as they look for new faces to recruit.

The much-loved Channel 4 show is launching a “recruitment drive” after a number of families decided not to return to the programme for the new series.

“We pick people who don’t want to be on the telly,” says producer Victoria. “The ideal people are ones who don’t know they are funny,” she went on to say.

“We like people who are charismatic, engaging and don’t necessarily see themselves as TV personalities.”

The creator of Gogglebox, Stephen Lambert, has previously revealed that none of their families applied to be on the show.

“Everybody on Gogglebox has been found and persuaded to be on the show and I think that’s the key to why they are likeable and why the show works, because we get to know these people."

It is believed the programme uses a Channel 4 talent scout to recruit new faces for the programme, as there currently isn’t a public application process for families to apply through.

A spokesperson said last year: “There is no way to apply to be on Gogglebox.”

It is also believed that scouts take talent from other Channel 4 programmes, with former stars Steph and Dom previously appearing on Four In A Bed.

Steph previously said: “Gogglebox is made by the same people who did Four in a Bed and they just rang us up and asked us! And the rest is history!”

In the last year, Pete McGarry, 71, Andrew Michael, 61, and Mary Cook, 92, have sadly passed away and their families have decided not to continue filming on the show.

At the recent National Television Awards, show star Julie Malone paid tribute to those who had passed away. Her moving tribute left many viewers in tears.

“On behalf of the Gogglebox family, I would just like to say a massive thanks for this award and on a sadder note, I’d like to dedicate it to all the people we have lost over the last 18 months,” she said. “Andy, Pete, Mary and everybody’s favourite grandma June who has been reunited with Leon.”
