Inside Meghan Markles close friendship with Ellen DeGeneres after bonding over animals
Meghan Markle has just appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' chat show over in the States, but the pair have been friends for years.
The bond between the Duchess of Sussex and Hollywood star Ellen seems quite unexpected for many, but reports have claimed the pair have enjoyed nearly a decade of friendship, after they bonded long before Meghan met now-husband Prince Harry.
Having spent a few years here in the UK since marrying into the British Royal Family, Meghan returned to Los Angeles with her other half and their two young children in 2020, which allowed her to invest more time into her celebrity friendships.

Ellen DeGeneres first met Meghan Markle back in 2012, when she was working as an actress.
At the time, the 40 year old was starring in hit series Suits, playing Rachel Zane.
The pair bumped into one another when they both visited the same Los Angeles dog shelter at the same time, as they were both looking for a rescue dog to take home.
At the time, Ellen didn't know who Meghan was, but said to the star "you have to take that dog".
The dog Ellen was referring to was a Labrador German Shepherd cross named Bogart, who Meghan actually went on to adopt.
Since that day, Meghan has gone on to rescue another dog; a Beagle named Guy, but still insists that Ellen was the reason for her making the decision to take Bogart home that day.
Ex-royal Meghan refers to Bogart as 'Bogs', and the controversial tell-all book on the Sussexes – Finding Freedom – detailed how she became his proud owner.
A passage from the book reads: "Although Meghan didn't grow up with pets, Bogs, as she called him, became the object of her devotion and in heavy rotation on her Instagram feed.
"But she credits Ellen DeGeneres as the reason she adopted the Lab mix."
Ellen reportedly asked Meghan if the dog was hers, and when she said he wasn't the host was insistent that she take him home, even tapping on the window as she left to tell her again.
The pair kept in touch after they first met, and in the November 2021 Ellen interview they go into detail about various moments where they've hung out at each other's houses.
Back in November 2020, Ellen herself hinted at her close friendship to the royal couple, stating previously that she had invited a duo of dancers onto her chat show due to Meghan recommending them.
Ellen and her wife Portia also visited Meghan and Harry whilst they were living in London, and the pair were said to be discussing their work on wildlife conservation, something both the stars are incredibly passionate about.
Shortly after Meghan moved from the UK and was staying briefly in Canada, an insider revealed that "Meghan adores Ellen and loves the fact that she and Portia are huge animal lovers.
"She said they have stayed in touch since meeting in person and have become close.
"She said they actually have a lot in common and that Ellen has been a huge support, especially since moving to Canada".
