Japan's Life-Size Gundam Receives Two Guinness World Records
Following the official unveiling of Japan’s life-size Gundam, we are now learning that the 59-foot RX-78-2 unit has received two Guinness World Records.
According to the official Gundam franchise website Gundam Info, the 55,500-pound moving mech attraction at Gundam Factory Yokohama is now both the “Largest Mobile Humanoid Robot” and “Largest Mobile Gundam.” In a commemorative ceremony, Yasuo Miyakawa of the Gundam Global Challenge team behind the monumental figure said, “Thank you so much for this. I never would have imagined that we would get a Guinness World Record in my life. I hope that everyone will come to Yokohama to see the ‘Walking Gundam’ that has been acknowledged by the Guinness World Records.”
Taking six years to complete, the moving Gundam located in Yokohama’s bayside district is operated by Evolving G Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Yokohama City for the “Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary Project.” Now open for public viewing until March 31, the statue demonstrates its movement capabilities with 24 actuated joints every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. JST with plans to runs special seasonal shows.
