Kate Middleton shows resemblance to The Queen Mother in birthday portraits
On Sunday 9 January we saw Kate Middleton celebrate her 40th birthday and to mark the special occasion, Kensington Palace released three new portraits of The Duchess of Cambridge
In each of the images, Kate oozed Royal glamour and sophistication by wearing three incredible gowns by her go-to designer label Alexander McQueen.
The mum-of-three styled her luscious locks down with a soft mermaid wave and opted for a barely-there natural make up look.
Whilst some say that this was to pay tribute to her and Prince William's wedding day back in April 2011, others have pointed out that she also closely resemblance other historic royal portraits.

One fan took to social media saying: "I do like the one that is most obviously inspired by Cecil Beaton.
"For comparison, here are portraits Beaton did of Princesses Margaret & Elizabeth before she became Queen, & The Queen Mother when she was still Queen Consort, alongside this portrait of Kate Middleton."
Another said: "That was my daughter's first thought that she looked like #QueenVictoria. Can't get enough of this picture. Each time I look at it it shows a different story of #KateMiddleton."
A third hinted: "Inspired by The Queen Mother, her predecessor?"
The regal images were shot by photographer Paolo Rovers and will become a part of a permanent collection of The National Portrait Gallery.
Elizabeth Holmes, best-selling author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, took to her Instagram stories to point out more comparisons to The Queen Mother.
She said: "You can see the similarities, although Kate's is much simpler than those of Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret and certainly the young Queen.
"My guess is we will see Kate take more inspirations from the Queen Mother, who was beloved as Queen Consort (the wife of the king) and then as the supportive mother to Queen Elizabeth II. The will be Kate's role to Willian and perhaps George, too."
OK!'s very own Fashion Editor Harriet Wheeler added how "It feels like we’re seeing the real, natural Kate with her soft, ethereal-like curls".
"She is beaming from ear to ear and that’s so refreshing to see," she added.
"The regal black-and-white shot of the Duchess in a stunning tulle gown, looking away from the camera, resembles Queen Victoria’s official portraits, and Kate certainly knows how to channel a predecessor."
As well as making this touching tributes to the history of The Royal Family, Kate also made sure to pay special tribute to The Queen and her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
In the striking red dress, The Duchess is seen wearing Her Majesty’s diamond earrings, which she’s been pictured in on multiple occasions throughout the years.
The two other black and white snaps show Kate wearing her late mother-in-law Diana's pearl drop earrings.
