Martin Lewis issues energy bills warning as costs set to jump by hundreds
Being a homeowner is all fun and games until you have to pay for bills, council tax and other fees.
As we all know energy bills aren't the nicest of things, but there are ways to help you be kinder to your wallets.
Martin Lewis, founder of Money Saving Expert, recently warned his millions of readers about rising energy bills.
Writing in his weekly newsletter on MSE, the guru told Brits that energy bills "are about to jump by hundreds".
He claimed: "The cheapest deals cost 40% more than a year ago, and are still rising.
"Fail to act and you'll face a huge bill shock.
"The team and I have long warned you this will be coming, and now, sadly we're there."
Martin shared a number of tips for readers to help them avoid a price hike in energy bills.
He added: "Whether you're direct debit or prepay, do a quick Cheap Energy Club comparison or use our easier Pick Me A Tariff tool.
"Don't expect to pay less than you have been though, this is about minimising the explosive rises most will face."
It comes after experts revealed energy prices were expected to rise in 2021.
The fees have risen for about 15 million households in the UK from April this year.
Ofgem said that for six months from April 2021 the price cap will increase by £96 to £1,138.
The regulator blamed the higher than expected rise on the sudden increase in prices on the wholesale energy markets.
Most suppliers have based energy prices on their default tariffs on the rate of the price cap.
