My dad is close to dying and I can't cope without him
DEAR DEIDRE: DAD’S very ill and might not survive.
I don’t want to live without him.
I’m a 17-year-old male and my dad brought me up on his own.
My mum died from a heart attack when I was eight.
Now Dad has been diagnosed with cancer and it’s spread everywhere.
He’s been taken into hospital for more tests and I’m staying with my aunt – his sister.
She says it’s touch and go.
Everything’s getting on top of me.
I feel like I’m losing control.
DEIDRE SAYS: I do feel for you and I’m sorry there are no easy answers.
Don’t feel you have to hide your feelings from your dad.
Admit you’re scared but, above all, tell him how much you love him.
My e-leaflet Has Someone Close To You Had Cancer Diagnosed? explains lots of sources of support.
You don’t have to cope with this alone.
