My sister is taking over my role as grandmother and I'm sick of it
DEAR DEIDRE: MY sister is taking over my role as a grandmother. It’s driving me crazy.
She wedges herself into every plan and gathering. Now my grandkids get upset if I turn up without her.

I’m 72, she’s 67 and never remarried after her divorce or had kids of her own, so my family are all she has.
At first I was more than happy to include her. I could see how grateful she was to be a part of something.
But now she’s taking over. She spoils the kids with presents – flash toys I could never afford – and insists on hosting Christmas at her house.

She’ll also jump at the chance to babysit the kids whenever my son and daughter-in-law want a night out.
I feel like I’m missing out.
DEIDRE SAYS: I can imagine how stifling it must be to constantly have your sister involving herself in your family’s plans.
But you would hate it if she did not want anything to do with you all.
Find a quiet moment to tell her how you appreciate all she does for your son’s family but that you would like to share the opportunities more fairly.
And suggest taking turns to host Christmas.
My support pack on Standing Up For Yourself will help you get your point across.
