Prince Charles Is Technically Prince William and Prince Harry's Boss

Prince Charles has been a polarizing figure in the British royal family for a good portion of his life. In his late teens and 20s after stepping into the royal spotlight, he was given the persona as the playboy prince — an image that had nothing to do with who he actually was.

Later on, he was usurped in popularity by his then-wife, the late Princess Diana. When his affair with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall was revealed, he was villainized in the press, this only expanded following Princess Diana’s tragic death. Now, most royal fans seem to feel lukewarm about the Prince of Wales and all of his eccentricities.

As he awaits his time on the throne, Prince Charles has done his royal duties while being a devoted father and grandfather. In fact, because he’s technically also his sons’ boss, he’s been put in some interesting situations.

Prince Charles has been caught in the middle of Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud

Unlike Prince William who was apprehensive about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex when Prince Harry introduced her to the royal family, Prince Charles embraced his daughter in law immediately. Though he foresaw some of the issues that arose between the Sussexes and the other royals, he adores Meghan and even has a framed photograph of her from her wedding in his office.

Unfortunately, Prince Charles could do little to ease the tension between Prince Harry and Prince William even when they affected him directly. The princes nearly ruined Prince Charles’s 70th birthday portraits, but the prince could not really speak out on behalf of his youngest son and Meghan.

Royal expert Nigel Cawthorne told The Sun,

Charles genuinely made an attempt to support what Harry and Meghan were looking for as long as it wouldn’t upset other HRH’s In truth, however, there wasn’t a lot he could do apart from offering moral support.

Prince Harry and Prince Charles are still very close despite Megxit

Though Prince Charles hopes that someday the Sussexes might return to the royal family, he is supporting Prince Harry and Meghan all of the way. He often speaks to them on the phone.

In fact, Prince Charles reportedly helped the Sussexes fund their new $14.7 million Santa Barbara home. A source told The Sun,

Since [Prince Harry’s] move to Los Angeles they have been in regular contact. Charles is not an avid user of texts but there are video and phone calls The book has never been a massive talking point between them and Charles is determined that it is not an obstacle. Charles knows what it is like to be conflicted within the royal household. Harry has always been his own man and will do what he thinks is right.

This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie. Their son, Archie, was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter. It was subsequently worn for generations of Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren until 2004, when The Queen commissioned this handmade replica, in order for the fragile historic outfit to be preserved, and for the tradition to continue. Prince Charles is Prince William and Prince Harry’s boss

Since their mother’s death, Prince William and Prince Harry have apparently been hot and cold with their father. However, they’ve always said he was there for them in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s accident.

Still, a large part of their interesting father/son dynamic is due to the structure of the royal family.

“While Charles may be a father to Harry, he’s also their boss, and that makes their relationship complex for a number of reasons,” a source said in the Finding Freedom, per Entertainment Tonight. “Where you are born in this family dictates your position of power, and because of that, Harry has always come second to his brother, especially when it comes to funding. There were times in the past when Harry wanted to take on bigger projects and do more work, but he couldn’t get the money to support it. William was always the priority. A lot of their quarrels have been over budgets.”
