Royal Mail has been dealing with high demand throughout the coronavirus pandemic. It has updated customers with the latest information on services and delays.

Royal Mail has introduced some changes to operations in order to run more effectively during the coronavirus pandemic.

As well as introducing more safety measures, the postal service has adjusted opening times and rules for customers.

A statement said: “Throughout the pandemic, and now, we remain open for business.

“To manage the effects of coronavirus-related absences and necessary social distancing measures, such as reducing the number of people together in shared spaces and vehicles, we have implemented a range of mitigations.

“These include changing the time guarantee on Special Delivery items and updating opening hours of Customer Service Points at local delivery offices.”

The delivery service has posted an update on how it is running this week.

It explained it is delivering and collecting mail as normal in most parts of the UK.

However, there could be disruptions in some areas due to “resourcing issues”.

Royal Mail listed eight postcodes which could notice delays this week.

Area affected this week

Cannock (WS11 and WS12)

Orton Southgate (PE2, PE7-PE9)

Skegness (PE24-PE25)

It explained potential delays have been caused by resourcing issues across the country.

It continued: “Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas are likely to be disrupted this week.

“We aim to deliver at least every other day in these areas, though this may not always be possible in offices temporarily affected by very high levels of absence.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Royal Mail added coronavirus vaccine letters and test kits remains a priority.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resources available to support these offices. And we’re ensuring we prioritise delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”

The post service has also shared an update ahead of Easter, which falls this weekend.

It stated customers will be able to book its Parcel Collection service for free as part of a promotion to celebrate Easter.

A post on Royal Mail Twitter said: “Parcel Collect is on us this Easter.

“Book a collection of up to five prepaid items and we’ll collect for free until May 30, 2021.”
