'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse': Does Oscar Isaac Voice Spider-Man 2099?

Sony dropped the first footage from the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and fans couldn’t be happier. The video revealed the title of the film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), and it teased the arrival of Spider-Man 2099, who seems to have a problem with Miles Morales.

Oscar Isaac voiced Spider-Man 2099 in a post-credits scene in the first film

In the original Spider-Verse film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man 2099 first appeared in a post-credits scene. As is the case with most post-credits scenes, fans were surprised to see him and even more surprised to learn that Oscar Isaac voiced him.

In the scene, Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O’Hara, and his A.I. Lyla learn about Miles’ adventures with the other Spider-People. Miguel creates a watch that allows him to travel between universes while maintaining molecular stability. He tests out the device by visiting Earth-67, where he encounters that Earth’s Spider-Man.

As his name suggests, Miguel is from 2099 in the comic books. He is an Irish-Mexican geneticist living in Nueva York who is working to recreate Spider-Man’s genes. Of course, Miguel accidentally ends up rewriting his DNA code, and he gains the abilities of Spider-Man.

Who voices Spider-Man 2099 in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)’?

Per Entertainment Weekly, Oscar Isaac is set to reprise his role as Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One).

The movie’s writers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, teased Isaac’s role in the film during a Twitter Q&A. They said, “Oscar had one condition of taking the gig: ‘Don’t make me boring.’ He’s made a really complex character out of Miguel O’Hara, and he’s definitely not boring.”

In the first look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), Miles Morales travels to another universe where he meets Spider-Man 2099. Miguel transports himself there using his watch, and he tackles Miles. The two fight as Miguel uses his watch to travel between universes. It’s unclear why Miguel is targeting Miles, but, thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out.

Everything we know about the sequel

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld join Oscar Isaac in reprising their roles from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One). Moore voices Miles, and Steinfeld plays Gwen Stacy.

In the film, Miles joins Gwen on a journey across the Spider-Verse where they “reunite with some old friends and meet … a lot of new ones,” according to Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Along with the announcement of the title and release date of the sequel also came the surprise news that a third film is in the works. Phil Lord and Chris Miller told Entertainment Weekly, “Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise, we realized it was two movies instead of one. We’re working on them both as we speak. Part Two will be out sometime in 2023. We will sleep again in 2024.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), featuring Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, releases on Oct. 7, 2022, in theaters.
