‘We’re together forever’: Moving moment devoted wife surprises her husband with dementia by moving into his care home after a month apart because she ‘can’t live without him’

A woman has shared footage of the emotional moment her nan surprised her granddad after deciding to move into his care home because she ‘couldn’t live without him.’

Charl, from Redditch, took to Twitter to share the heartwarming video from Bourn View care home in Birmingham, and penned: ‘My granddad went into a care home 5 weeks ago and my nan couldn’t live without him so she decided to move in and the care home did this for them – my actual heart.’  

In the clip, Kenneth, who had been moved into the care home five weeks prior due to his dementia, can be seen walking through the door with his zimmer frame, before breaking down in tears as he sees his wife Betty sitting down in front of him.  

And it wasn’t long before the post racked up thousands of views and over 1, 700 likes – with one admitting ‘it brought a tear to my eye.’

At the beginning of the heartwarming footage, Kenneth can be seen steadily making his way over to his wife.

Donning a white t-shirt and vest jumper, he holds out his arms ready to give her a warm embrace. 

Betty, donning a mint green jumper, can be sitting at a table decorated with heart shaped balloons and roses, amongst other decorations. 

As The Platters’ 1954 hit ‘Only You’ can be heard playing in the background, the pair then share a long, warm hug.

Many took to the comments section and told how they were reduced to tears by the touching video (pictured)

Alongside the clip, Charl penned: ‘My granddad has been in a care home for five weeks due to dementia…and today my nan moved in with him. The carers decorated the whole dining area. He had no idea she was coming.’ 

‘This us just the most beautiful thing. I love them both so much.’

The care home also shared the footage on Facebook and explained: ‘After a month of living apart, Kenneth did not know when he would see his beautiful wife Betty again due to Covid 19 and current restrictions! 

‘Betty made the decision to move in to Bourn View and be with her husband but first had to isolate! Kenneth had no idea Betty had moved in and today the two of them were reunited at a surprise meal! Betty perfectly put it, they are now back “Together, forever.”‘

There was not one dry eye as the staff cheered and celebrated the wonderful couple’s reunion.’ 

Taking to the comments section, one person wrote: ‘I needed this thank you for sharing,’ while a second agreed: ‘That is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.’

A third added: ‘Omg my heart just melted,’ while a further penned: ‘I’m not crying you are! No, wait, I am crying.’
