Woman defies trolls who called her obese by celebrating weight gain

A curvy model who is trolled online ignores the haters and praises her weight gain.

Sophie Hughes modelled as a size six from the ages of 15 to 25 but struggled with disordered eating for years.

After the British lass had liver surgery to save her nephew's life, and gained weight at 27, she became a curvy model and managed to repair her relationship with food.

Despite the cruel jibes she receives from people online, Sophie has become a body positivity icon.

She recently shared a before and after photo where she highlighted how skinny she was when she was in the throes of her disordered eating.

“I just want to give her a big hug. I want to tell her that it gets easier. I want to tell her that she learns to heal her relationship with her body,” she wrote.

“I want to tell her that one day she’s going to eat food without guilt, without the need to punish herself afterwards, I want to tell her that one day someone is going to love her in all her glory.

“I want her to know that her waistline doubles but she doesn’t have to be afraid because so does her self-worth.

“I want to tell her that one day she has REAL LIFE BOOBS!!!! And they’re so fun!!!”

Sophie went on to say that past her needs a hug and needs to know that it gets easier.

She added: “This is me six years ago, if this is you today, I’m sending you that hug, I’m telling you you can heal. I’m telling you, you deserve to eat food.”

The 31-year-old used to think that all she had to offer the world was how skinny she was.

Now she’s teaching herself – as well as other women – how to love themselves just the way they are.

“I remember when I thought being skinny was all I had to offer the world,” she said.

“The way you look is the least interesting thing about you let’s be very clear, don’t let it rule your life, focus on nourishing your body and embracing every moment.”

Sophie manages to keep positive despite the vile comments she’s received online.

While she gets hate from trolls, she also faces criticism for calling herself ‘mid-size’.

“I get people who are in a bigger body than me who will comment and say that I'm not in a position to talk about body positivity,” she previously told Daily Star.

“And then I get hate from the other side, which is from personal trainers and people who are selling diets who say that I'm promoting an unhealthy lifestyle and that I’m obese, whatever it might be.

“But I'm at a space in my life, and certainly an age in my life as I've come into my 30s, where I can hand on my heart, say I just don't care.

“I just don't care what you have to say about me, because this is my life, you are so irrelevant. You're irrelevant at this moment, and you're certainly irrelevant five years from now.”

Sophie has become known for the scar on her stomach which was the result of an operation she went under to save her nephew Oscar six years ago.

“He was six months old at the time and that left me with a seven-inch scar down my stomach,” she explained.

“That surgery was a really big part of my life, a really pivotal time in my life. I was always a size six and I had been modelling since I was 15 and then all of a sudden I had this new scar to contend with and was looking at being a curve model. It was a real change for me but it was for the better for sure.”

She added: “Now Oscar's doing really, really well. He's absolutely thriving.”
