'90 Day Fiance': Jay Smith Joins Former Castmates Claiming the Show Is Fake

The stories on 90 Day Fiance get more and more wild each season. In fact, the storylines have become so insane that the show has spurred a number of spin-offs where viewers can follow the couples for multiple seasons.

Though international relationships surely come with a number of trials and tribulations, the things that happen between the couples on the show seem a bit outrageous sometimes.

Lately, several former members of the 90 Day Fiance cast have come out and spoken against the show, claiming that certain storylines were fabricated and heavily edited.

Jay Smith claims his storyline was faked

Jay Smith and Ashley Martson had one of the most tumultuous relationships in 90 Day Fiance history. The two had to elope to get married because no one supported their union. Then, when they got back to America, Martson found out that Smith had been soliciting women on Tinder while she was at work.

The two tried to stay together despite the Tinder debacle, but later it came out that Smith had cheated on Martson after the show finished filming.

Though Smith doesn’t claim to be innocent in the downfall of his relationship with Martson, he does say that TLC took some liberties with how they portrayed what happened.

“The Tinder incident that happened, that was staged because without drama you don’t have a show,” he told InTouch. “The Tinder scandal, it was just an act so it was easy to move [past it] because you know, we just act on the TV and after … that was it.”

He went on to say that his second cheating incident, where he allegedly was intimate with a woman in the bathroom at a barbershop, was also staged.

“To my knowledge, they got paid to do that,” he said of the women. “They got paid $500 each to do that and the reason why that happened in the bathroom is because there was a lot that Ash and I was going through … and I just couldn’t take it anymore so I decided to do my own thing.”

Other stars call ’90 Day Fiance’ out

Smith isn’t the only one who has had a problem with TLC’s editing. Michael Jessen also called the network out after a particularly hard episode aired.

“This is the biggest bunch of manufactured bulls–t … shame on you Sharp Entertainment and TLC,” he captioned a screenshot of the episode.

He also got on Instagram live and spoke about how some aspects of he and Juliana Custodio’s relationship were not portrayed accurately.

“You know, look, it’s a reality TV show,” he said. “We’re not paid actors. There’s certainly a lot of liberties that are taken in the filming of this and that’s all well and good and it’s fun and games but I gotta say, Sarah(my ex-wife,) and Juliana, myself, we appreciate all the positivity and the support because we are living real lives here.”

Emily Larina also chastised the network for how they portrayed her husband Sasha Larina.

“For a while, I was disappointed that the world didn’t get to meet the Sasha I know,” she captioned a photo of her and Sasha on Instagram. “The man I know is always thinking about how he can be a better provider for his family. The man who sees something in the store and says, ‘I want to send this to my father, son, brother, etc.’ The man who doesn’t have a lot of possessions because he’s so giving.”

For a while, I was disappointed that the world didn’t get to meet the Sasha I know. The man I know is always thinking about how he can be a better provider for his family. The man who sees something in the store and says, “I want to send this to my father, son, brother, etc.” The man who doesn’t have a lot of possessions because he’s so giving. I remember asking why he was always giving his clothes away to his brother, and he’d say, “Because it’s better that he has them than me.” He would work split shifts but still come home on a long metro ride to check on me. He’s the kind of man who will help others and expect nothing in return. He’s never afraid to chase his dreams. When his family calls, he answers. I love you, and I’ll forever appreciate you for all you’ve done. I’ve come to terms with everything. I’ll keep the real you to myself. @alexander.g.larin #90dayfiance

She went on to say that she had finally accepted that she couldn’t control the show’s editing.

“I’ve come to terms with everything,” she wrote. “I’ll keep the real you to myself.”
