Adele on SNL: Everything we know about her Saturday Night Live appearance
Adele is set to host Saturday Night Live for the first time and we could not be more ready.
The London queen, who has kept a low profile recently, only posting sporadic snaps on Instagram, is about to take over the sketch show and, knowing her sense of humour, she’s not going to hold back.
It’s surely set to go down in SNL history, along with appearances like Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.
So, here’s everything we know about Adele’s soon-to-be iconic hosting stint.
When is Adele hosting SNL?
Adele is hosting Saturday Night Live on Saturday October 24.
Who is she appearing with?
Adele is taking to the SNL stage along with guest H.E.R, so it’s sure to be a very musical time.
The Rolling In The Deep hitmaker admitted she was ‘beside herself’ to have the Slide singer with her for the show.
‘I am beside myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!!’ she wrote on Instagram
‘I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my a**e off in between it all.’
H.E.R – real name Gabriella Wilson – has shot to fame over the past few years, with the star being nominated for five Grammys last year and winning two (best R&B performance and best R&B album).
What’s going to happen?
It’s anyone’s guess as to what direction Adele’s going to go with her hosting gig.
She’s surely set to do the now-traditional monologue, but beyond that, it’s being kept under wraps.
Our only real clue was a recent teaser she shared with cast member Kate McKinnon, with the pair trying out each other’s accents.
Whatever Adele’s got in store, we’re sure she’s going to make the most of it, with the star admitting it’s been a dream of hers for quite some time.
‘I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right,’ she explained.
‘But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?’
And she’s already shared a snap of herself diving into the script – so it seems we’re in for a treat.
When was Adele’s first SNL appearance?
The 32-year-old opened up about her first ever appearance on the show a whopping 12 years ago when she announced her hosting stint.
‘It’ll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election…which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!,’ she said.
She first featured in 2008 to perform her songs Chasing Pavements and Cold Shoulder, from her first album 19. How time flies.
Adele also appeared on the show in 2015 to promote her third album, 21, and perform her hits Hello and When We Were Young.
How can viewers in the UK watch Adele’s SNL appearance?
There are still plenty of ways UK viewers can see Adele’s appearance.
Clips are sure to circulate the internet, with Saturday Night Live posting all the best skits and monologues on its YouTube channel.
If you’re waiting to see the full show, the episode will air on Sunday at 9pm on Sky Comedy.
Does this mean a new album?
While Adele hasn’t confirmed anything about her next album, fans are convinced her appearance on the show must mean one is coming soon.
There’s a possibility she could be gearing up for another record (after all, what better way to kick off the promo?) but she might just have decided it’s time to tick an item off the bucket list with her hosting gig.
If Adele does come out with a new album, it will be her first in five years, following the release of 25 in 2015.
In the past, she had hinted that her fourth album may not be titled after her age like her previous ones.
She told James Corden during her appearance on Carpool Karaoke in 2016: ‘This is the last album after my age. I believe in trilogies, yeah. The next one is just gonna be “Adele.”’
So, only time will tell!
