Who plays Simon in After Life season 2?

Simon in After Life season two is a new visitor at the nursing home where his father Ray (David Bradley) is living.

He takes a romantic interest in Emma, much to Tony’s annoyance.

Tony and Emma began dating at the end of season one but Tony thought they would be better off as friends.

Simon is played by 52-year-old English actor, Bill Ward.

After Life fans may recognise Ward from his roles in three iconic British soap operas.

In 2003, he made an appearance in EastEnders as Mike Parker.

From 2003 until 2007, Ward starred as Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street.
He left the series in 2007 after his character was killed by Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) in a domestic abuse storyline.

He then joined the cast of Emmerdale as James Burton in 2013.

Bill left Emmerdale in 2016 after his character was killed by his ex-wife Emma (Gillian Kearney).

Before becoming an actor, Ward worked as an advertising executive before beginning his professional acting career in 2000.

His first major role was as Vernon Spools in Jonathan Creek.

He then had small roles in In Deep, Footballers’ Wives, Rose and Maloney, Holby City and Cold Blood.

Ward has also appeared in The Bill, Robin Hood, Midsomer Murders and Casualty.

He has also appeared in numerous films, including Secret Places, Scent of Burning Mortar, A Dark Reflection, The Haunting of Ellie Rose, The Great Ghost Rescue and Adam and Steve.

Most recently, Ward starred as retired drag queen Hugo Battersby/ Loco Chanelle in acclaimed musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Apollo Theatre.

Who else in the cast of After Life season 2?

Creator and writer of After Life, Ricky Gervais is back as lead character Tony.

In the second series, cynical local journalist Tony is trying to take steps to improve his life whilst still mourning the death of his beloved wife Lisa (Kerry Goldiman).

Gervais is a popular stand-up comedian and best known for creating and starring in The Office, Extras and Derek.

Ugly Betty’s Ashley Jensen is back as Emma, Tony’s romantic interest.

Also returning is Extras star Tony Way as photographer Lenny and Game of Thrones star David Bradley as Tony’s father Ray.

Also returning is Mandeep Dhillon as Sandy, Diane Morgan as Kath, Roisin Conaty as Roxy/Daphne, Jo Hartley as June, Dame Penelope Wilton as Anne, David Earl as Brian, Ethan Lawrence as James and Kerry Godliman as Lisa.

Peter Egan joins the cast of After Life season two as Paul, a local newspaper owner and Colin Hoult takes on the role of theatre director, Ken.
