Alison Hammond tells Ruth Langsford she is 'a beauty' after replacing her on This Morning

Alison Hammond has paid a public compliment to Ruth Langsford following the shock news that she is replacing her on This Morning.

Alison, 45, told Ruth she is "a beauty" after the 60-year-old telly star shared a picture of herself modelling a blue star-print jumper.

Former Big Brother contestant Alison commented on the snap: "What a beauty ❤️." Ruth has not replied.

Last week, it was revealed that Alison will be replacing Ruth on This Morning's Friday shows.

X Factor presenter Dermot O'Learly will take over from Ruth's husband, telly veteran Eamonn Holmes.

The Sun reported in September that Eamonn and Ruth were fearing the axe from This Morning amid a diversity drive at ITV.

The decision to replace the husband-and-wife team with Alison and Dermot is reported to have left the pair "furious".

In an interview published in Notebook before news of ITV's shake-up broke, Ruth told how she grafted to get the role that she's had for the last 14 years.

She said: "We've put the work in. We didn't do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We've come up through the ranks.

"Eamonn was only 19 when he started out. And he was doing the teatime news in Belfast during The Troubles."

On Wednesday, Ruth had to speak to Alison on-air in an exchange that some viewers branded "awkward".

It came as the pair took part in a live link-up, when This Morning crossed to Loose Women.

Ruth opened the link by addressing Phillip Schofield, saying: "Hi Phillip". But didn't mention Alison – who stood alongside her co-star silently waving.
