Bargain Hunt expert lost for words at value of rare Willy Wonka Golden Ticket from original film

BARGAIN Hunt expert Anita Manning was stunned that a Golden Ticket from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the 1971 movie, fetched thousands at auction.

She was shocked to discover the whopping value of one of the iconic props from the famous film.

Anita spoke with auctioneer Catherine Southon, who explained to her that the ticket once belonged to Julie Dawn Cole, the actress who played spoilt child Veruca Salt.

The auctioneer told antiques expert Anita that Julie gave away the Golden Ticket to her childhood friend back when she was 12, over 48 years ago.

Anita introduced the ticket by stressing how rare it was. 

Catherine replied: “I want to show you this because it’s very special and it’s something that as a child I would have dreamed of having.

 

Anita joked that the Wonka bar that it came with had no chocolate in it, as it turned out to be made entirely of cardboard. 

Anita continued: “Hundreds, if not thousands of these would have been made for the movie, but Catherine the important thing is, did it have a Golden Ticket?”

After much anticipation, the auctioneer opened the chocolate bar, only to reveal that it did have a rare Golden Ticket inside.

The ticket read – Wonka’s Golden Ticket, greetings to you, the lucky finder of this Golden Ticket, Mr Willy Wonka.

 

Anita asked if the Golden Ticket featured in the globally renowned film.

Catherine explained that the prop belonged to actress Julie Dawn Cole and that it is probably one of just half a dozen ever made. 

“But whether this one was actually held by one of the young actors, I don’t know,” she added.

As soon as they finished filming she gave her prop to a childhood friend, who is now selling them. 

“It’s iconic, it’s the important thing that really draws that film apart from another film and that’s what makes these so collectable.”

The chocolate bar and ticket are estimated to go for £12,000 at auction in Selsdon, Surrey, by Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers.

Later in the episode, Anita discovered that the items went along with photographs of the actress for £15,808.
