BBC airs June Brown documentary as EastEnders pays tribute to Dot Cotton star

EastEnders paid tribute to June Brown at the end of Monday's episode after it was announced that the legendary Dot Cotton star had tragically passed away at the age of 95.

It comes as BBC One also aired a documentary looking at June's life and career following Monday's episode.

At the end of Monday's episode, a tribute came up during the credits which said: "In loving memory of June Brown OBE, MBE, 1927-2022."

While the documentary, called June Brown: A Walford Legend, originally aired in 2017 and marked June's then 90th birthday where she spoke about her incredible life and career.

Soap fans were left in tears over the tribute and documentary as they took to Twitter to share their condolences.

One person said: "The tribute to June Brown at the end of tonight’s episode was a lovely touch," followed with crying emojis.

A different account put: "@bbceastenders lovely to see a tribute to the lovely #JuneBrown on tonight’s show #DotCotton #EastEnders thinking of all her friends and family at this sad time. Fly high June x ."

A different soap fan commented: "What a nice tribute to June brown at the end of tonight’s #EastEnders in loving memory."

The BBC One soap confirmed the sad news in a statement earlier on Monday 4 April, which read: "We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE sadly passed away last night.
