The Big Bang Theory was a hugely popular sitcom which originally aired on CBS and is now being repeated on E4. The show featured Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) and his socially awkward friends as they navigated careers and relationships. Raj actor Kunal Nayyar has revealed what he really thought about the series finale.

How did Kunal Nayyar really feel about The Big Bang Theory ending?

Kunal Nayyar is best known for his role as Sheldon’s friend Raj Koothrappali in The Big Bang Theory.

He was one of the highest-earning actors in the series, and he has once again stepped into the spotlight following his eerie role in Criminal season two on Netflix.

The Big Bang Theory finale aired in May 2019 and it saw Sheldon and his wife Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) win a Nobel Prize for their theory on super-asymmetry.

All of Sheldon’s friends had brought their partners along to the prize-giving ceremony, but Raj was still a single man at the time.

Instead he shocked the audience by bringing along Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar as his date.

Fans loved her cameo in the series, as Raj and his friends had always said how much they loved the vampire series.

Viewers had mixed opinions about the series finale, with some saying they had hoped Raj would find love before it came to an end.

But actor Nayyer defended the decision to leave his character single, and he told The Metro: “I find it quite poignant that the one character that believes in true love so much was the who didn’t, in the end, find it. It’s beautiful!”

His character had a number of romantic partners throughout the series, but none of them proved to be the right woman for him.

He had been engaged to Anu (Rati Gupta), whom Raj’s dad had set him up with as part of an arranged marriage.

His other ex-girlfriends include Nell (Beth Behrs) who approached Raj at his planetarium show, and Emily Sweeney (Laura Spencer) a dermatologist he met on a dating site.

He was also in a relationship with Lucy (Kate Micucci) whom he met at a Valentine’s Day party at the comic book shop, and another Emily (Katie Leclerc), a deaf woman from Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco) spin class.

Nayyar said what he loved about the series was that it did not seem formulaic. When asked what his character would be doing today, he said: “We have this Hindi word called Masti – he’s up to some mischief. So wherever he is, he’s doing some Masti!”

He explained how somewhere the main characters are continuing to live their lives, even though the series has come to an end.

Nayyar is on Instagram and he shared a photo from the last episode of The Big Bang Theory, with an emotional message.

He said: “Our last taping of tbbt, also happened to be my birthday. As I reflect on this year, it has been one of change.

“But not all change is bad, for the greatest experience to come out of all the uncertainty and the turmoil has been — the realization that nothing is promised; and that has given me a sense of deep profound inner peace.

“Because at the end of the day, all is precious, all is precious, all is precious.”

Fans were quick to show their love for Raj in the series, with one responding: “I just finished the show and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and your character! Definitely made my life a better, funnier place.”

Viewers have also been blown away by Nayyar’s performance in an episode of Criminal season two in the UK.

He plays killer Sandeep Singh in the series, and he said he had made a deliberate decision to step away from his Big Bang Theory character and try something new.

He said as people recognised him so easily from his voice and face as Raj, he wanted to try something completely different so people could see him in a new light as an actor.

He posted a photo of himself as Sandeep on Instagram and one fan said: “I just watched this episode and I’m still moved. What a magnificent interpretation, what talent!

“And the denouement left me speechless. Bravo and thank you for your talent, but I confess, I must go see a live of Kunal or an episode of TBBT immediately, I need to see him smile before seeing the episode of “Criminal UK” a second time.”
