Bradley Walsh to star with son Barney in reboot of The Darling Buds of May

Bradley Walsh is set to star with his son Barney in ITV’s reboot of the hit Darling Buds of May.

Coronation Street, Dr Who and The Chase host Bradley, 60, will reprise the iconic role of loveable patriarch Pop Larkin, previously played by acting legend Sir David Jason, in the big budget production due to take place later this year.

And Barney, who starred alongside his dad in the popular Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad, is also set to star alongside his dad in the hit show first broadcast three decades ago.

Barney, 23, is set to play a village policeman according to reports.

“Pairing Bradley and Barney adds to the growing anticipation for this reinvention of a show which holds a special place in the hearts of a generation of viewers,” an insider told The Sun.

“Their adventures gained around 5million viewers an episode, and producers hope to bring some of that audience to The Larkins.”

And it will not be the first time the popular pair have starred alongside each other on the screen, with Barney appeared with his dad in the 2013 series of Law & Order UK.

Bridgerton star Sabrina Bartlett, 29, is set to play Mariette Larkin in the new adaption, the role which shot actress Catherine Zeta-Jones to Hollywood fame in the first TV version of H.E. Bates novel.

The hit comedy drama first aired in 1991 and ran for three successful seasons, on a Sunday, until April 1993.

There were 20 episodes of the show in all and two Christmas specials as Sir David made character Pop one of the most-loved characters on TV.

Set in rural Kent, the show follows Pop, his wife Sidney – aka Ma – and their six children on their family farm.

Bradley, who admitted it would be a “hoot” to star in the show, was pictured in character as Pop last month with film well-underway for the eagerly-anticipated reboot of the classic series.

Actress Joanna Scanlan, 59, will play Pa’s wife, while actor Tok Stephen is Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton, previously played by Philip Franks.

The new series, originally produced by Yorkshire Television for ITV, will run on ITV and is set to be called The Larkins.

Bradley and his son’s link-up comes after it was revealed last week that Dani Dyer, the former Love Island star daughter of the EastEnders actor Danny, might make a cameo appearance as a cab driver in the hit BBC soap.
