Brendan Cole sends message to Strictly Come Dancing professionals as they start first series without him

Brendan Cole has reached out to the Strictly Come Dancing team ahead of the new series.

The professional dancer was part of the BBC show from the very first run in 2004, taking the first ever Glitterball Trophy home with newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

But the dad-of-two revealed earlier this year that he had been let go from the programme.

To all of my @bbcstrictly friends on day one of Season 16… Wishing you a fantastic series Xx @mrantondubeke @nadiyabychkova @mr_njonesofficial @mrs_katjones @pernicegiovann1 @karencliftonofficial @aljazskorjanec @jmanrara @otimabuse @lubamushtuk @aj11ace @keviclifton @diannebuswell @gorka_marquez @graziano.diprima @johannesradebe @pashakovalev @amy_dowden

Showing he has no hard feelings toward his former colleagues, the 42-year-old sent a video message to all the dancers from the luxury of his sun-soaked holiday as their rehearsals began.

Lounging by the side of the pool, he said: “This is a message to all of my Strictly Come Dancing friends who are back in the studio today as day one of series 16 – guys, wishing you the very best for the brand new season.

“For the new guys, congratulations on joining the show. You’re going to have a ball.

“To my old friends, I miss you lots but I can’t wait to see and hear what you’ve been up to. We’ll catch up very, very soon. Lots of love.”

And so it begins… #Strictly 2018 ???

Brendan – who recently had a fire on his tourbus – revealed the BBC had decided not to renew his contract while appearing on Lorraine.

“It’s quite, actually, hard to talk about,” he said. “The BBC haven’t renewed my contract. We get contracted year upon year.

“They’ve made an editorial decision to not have me back on the show. I’m a little bit in shock. I’m quite emotional, a bit raw about it.

“It’s done via a process of a phone call and stuff. I have had 15 incredible series on the show. I’m very proud of the whole show. It’s a great team.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
