Brookside star Louis Emerick lands Hollywood role with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Coronation Street and Brookside star Louis Emerick has landed his first Hollywood role, starring alongside none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

No pressure then!

The Mick Johnson actor will be appearing in Kung Fury 2, the sequel to  2015 English-language Swedish martial arts comedy, alongside Arnie and Michael Fassbender.

His role isn’t yet clear, but we’re sure he’ll smash it.

The film is set in 1985 Miami, with Kung Fury (David Sandberg) keeping a watchful eye over the city with his Thundercorps, the ultimate police force.

The death of one of the Thundercorps throws everything into chaos, with Fury travelling through space and time to save his friends.

Michael stars as Colt Magnum, Fury’s new partner, with Arnold playing The President.

Louis, 60, is a bit of an acting legend in the UK, taking on roles in Brookside, Last Of The Summer Wine, and Casualty.

However, this is set to be his first venture into Hollywood.

Louis is best known for his role as Mick on Brookside, first appearing in 1989, before departing the soap in 2001, just two years before it ended.

He has also appeared on Corrie in two roles – as a van man in 1986, and later as retired teacher Mark Thornberry between March and June 2018, before returning to the role in December of the same year.

At the time of his appearance on the soap, he told Metro.co.uk: ‘Even from a technical point of view, it’s the first time I’ve done anything with multi-camera and studio stuff, because at Brookside it was all single camera. But what I’ve found is the camaraderie amongst actors and crew, I think that’s the same wherever you go.’

He added of his return to the soap: ‘To be honest, I never thought it would happen. I’d been up for a couple of parts before and kind of got close. One was Jason’s dad Tony, but he’s ended up dead, so I don’t want to go that way!

‘The other part was the one that Derek Griffiths did so I lost out to Derek, a lovely guy to lose out to. But I’ve got my time now, so that’s cool.’

How far he’s come!
