Country superstar Carrie Underwood has applauded the new American Idol winner Maddie Poppe following her victory on Monday night, May 21.

The Iowa native beat runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and third-placed Gabby Barrett to take the crown on the rebooted TV talent show, and former Idol champ Carrie, who recently made an appearance as a guest mentor on the series, was quick to share her well wishes to the singer on Twitter.


Katy, Lionel, and Luke will each be returning to the judges’ panel for season 17 of Idol, which was relaunched on U.S. network ABC earlier this year after it was dropped by Fox officials in 2016.
