CBS Renews Eleven More Series Including ‘Survivor’

CBS has handed out renewals to eleven shows of its current series. With the network greenlighting the eleven series, it brings the total of renewed shows for the 2018-19 TV season on CBS to 17 as the network previously renewed six other shows.

Among the renewed series in the latest batch of renewal are six procedural dramas, a political drama, two reality shows and two news programs. Both “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods” have been given season 9 renewals, while “Bull” and “Macgyver” are set to return for a third season. “NCIS: Los Angeles” and NCIS: New Orleans” have also been renewed for a new season.

Political drama “Madam Secretary” starring Tea Leoni is renewed for a fifth season. Meanwhile, the reality shows given the renewal are “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race“. Joining others in the newly-picked up shows are “48 Hours” and “60 Minutes“.

Noticeably absent in the list are “Kevin Can Wait“, “Man With a Plan“, “Superior Donuts” and “Code Black“. Perhaps, the biggest shock is not finding veteran dramas such as “Criminal Minds” and “Scorpion” among the renewed shows. Freshman comedies like “9JKL” and “Living Biblically” have also found themselves in limbo as the network haven’t picked them up for sophomore seasons. Given the fact they don’t have good ratings, it seems like prospects didn’t look particularly good for any of the shows. Meanwhile, in reality show department, freshman “Celebrity Big Brother” is still waiting word for the renewal.

On the other hand, “Me, Myself, and I” was yanked off the schedule. The network also decided not to pick up “Wisdom of the Crowd” beyond its 13-part season 1.

Prior to this, CBS gave early renewals to six of its popular shows. They included “The Big Bang Theory” and its spin-off “Young Sheldon“, “Mom“, “NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service“, “SEAL Team” and “S.W.A.T.“. The upcoming season will also see 13-episode “Murphy Brown” revival.
