Channel 4 documentary about Meghan Markle's family has utterly confused viewers

If there was ever a week where we’d find ourselves wanting to understand the inner-workings of Meghan Markle’s family, it’s this one.

Fortunately for fans of the impending royal wedding – and the drama that’s surrounded it – Channel 4 offered a unique insight into Meghan’s nearest and dearest this evening (May 15).

And by ‘unique insight’, we mean a quintessentially British and wickedly sarcastic take on monarchy mania.

Fronted by Chicken Shop Date‘s Amelia Dimoldenberg, Meet the Markles followed Amelia as she took a journey to America in the hope of bagging one of those all-important invites to Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding this Saturday.

Her journey included meeting Meghan’s 8th cousin (who is related to Jack the Ripper, apparently), her nephew and her half-sister Samantha – with mixed results.

Those mixed results are mostly down to Amelia’s presenting style, which Channel 4 itself summed up as Louis Theroux meets Philomena Cunk – something viewers couldn’t really get their heads around, and those speaking to Amelia didn’t even clock.

Many loved the “hilarious” Meet the Markles parody-cum-genuine-documentary, calling for Amelia to front more shows, while others, well, didn’t get the joke.

“Anyone else just not feeling the weird presenting?” Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace asked Twitter, while another called the programme ‘tedious’.

You can say what you like about the royal family, but they’re always able to spark a debate, aren’t they?
