Craig (played by Colson Smith) has become quite comfortable in his role as a police officer on Coronation Street, helping with several cases on the cobbles. Monday night’s edition of the ITV soap saw him inadvertently embroiled in the drama around the disappearance of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) as vicar Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) continued with his search for his ex-boyfriend. As he has access to the authority’s database, the youngster did some digging of his own after hearing about the missing Weatherfield resident. However, with the actions classed as illegal in his profession, could the beloved character end up losing his job?

In the second half of Monday’s episode, Craig quizzed Billy and Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) as to why they were at the police station.

“We’ve just been to see your lot about Todd,” the Rovers Return barman told the youngster, to which he asked if Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) son was back on the cobbles.

“Someone sent a message pretending to be him. It was a scam. Some girl found his bag and took his phone and all his details,” the former explained.

The young officer dug a little deeper as he inquired: “How did she get hold of his bag? Did he dump it or did she steal it?”

“That’s why we’re worried about him,” Sean said, adding: “I’ve trawled social media trying to find him, but so far nothing.”

The vicar then explained: “That’s why we went to the police to see if there is anything they can do,” to which Craig asked whether his colleagues could help.

“They can’t divulge anything about the case. I’m just some random ex that walked in,” Billy added, with Sean stating they’d been told to contact a missing person’s charity.

“Look, I feel awful and I wish there was something I could do to help but there isn’t so I’ll see you around, lads,” Craig replied.

However, by the end of the episode, the young officer had a change of heart and did something he could live to regret.

If anyone finds out I’ll be in loads of bother

Spotting Billy and Sean on the cobbles, the policeman explained: “I feel really bad about earlier, but it is right what they say, you can’t just go around telling people stuff.

“I could see how upset you both were,” Craig began as he teased his U-turn, going on to add: “You’re bound to be worried about where Todd is.”

Asked by the vicar if he knew anything, the young officer nervously revealed: “If anyone finds out I told you, I’ll be in loads of bother.”

With Todd’s ex-boyfriend pressing for answers, the beloved character said: “I checked the file. They found Todd a while back.”

“They interviewed him and they released him. They’re not looking for him anymore and he can get in touch with who he wants,” Craig shared.

“If he’s free to do what he wants, then why hasn’t he contacted Eileen?” Billy asked, to which Sean added: “Something bad must have happened.”

With the search for Todd set to continue in upcoming episodes, Craig could be pulled into the story even further.

However, will the authorities discover the illegal activity he has been up to and relieve him of duty for trying to help his friends?

It is likely Craig will have had to input his identification number to access the files and with Todd’s case active due to Billy’s interest, an alert could have been issued to someone reading through the notes.

Will the young officer be able to explain himself and convince his seniors to give him a warning rather than losing his job outright?

Although there is current confusion about Todd’s whereabouts, he will finally make his return to Weatherfield in the coming weeks.

With so many questions to answer, will his loved ones really know what’s happened to him during his time away from the cobbles or will he harbour some dark secrets from them?

Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on ITV.
