Coronation Street's Charlie Lawson confirms Jim McDonald will have an 'explosive' return to Weatherfield
Jim is currently in prison after he robbed a building society to try and get enough money for Liz McDonald to buy the Rovers Return.
He was sent down in 2011 and is due to be released this year, causing fans to speculate that he might return to the soap.
Now Charlie has confirmed we'll be seeing Jim back on the ITV soap soon.
He told The Mirror: “They wanted me back full time this year but I couldn’t do it as I am doing Rebus on stage, and a thriller. I’m going to film a bit but then will be back again next year.”
A Corrie spokesman said: “Jim is such a hugely popular character. We’re delighted he is coming back for what will be a typically explosive Jim storyline.”
Charlie left the soap after 11 years back in 2011 and briefly returned in 2014 when Peter Barlow ended up in jail.
Departing producer Kate Oates recently revealed a "well-established character" would be returning to Weatherfield.
She said: "We are having a discussion about bringing someone back. It's a well-established character – a long-standing name.
"It wouldn't be for a long period. It would be a short stint. I can't say more than that at this stage but fans should watch this space."
Meanwhile, Charlie recently said the soap would have banned in the 90s if people knew about the raucous behaviour backstage.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Charlie said: "We are in a different world now. The Corrie green room in the 90s was the bluest, most non-politically correct place in the universe.
"If you'd recorded a day of it, Coronation Street would be no more!"
