Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon denies rift as she reveals real reason for exit
Lucy Fallon has revealed the real reason she has left Coronation Street amid a mass exodus.
The Bethany Platt actress announced her departure from the ITV soap on twitter after four years on the cobbles.
Lucy, 25, strongly denied any row and backed Corrie boss Iain MacLeod, who has come under fire following seven major cast members announcing their exits this year.
There are reports that the cast have not been happy since Kate Oates left in 2018 and have complained about dark storylines, scheduling issues and a heavy workload.
Lucy followed up a statement announcing her departure with a tweet explaining why she decided to leave.
She said: "Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street.
"I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there. Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo"
Lucy will be leaving at the end of her contract in 2020 so has plenty of time left on screen.
The actress, whowon Best Dramatic Female Performance at last year's Soap Awards, put a statement on Twitter confirming her exit.
She said: "After the most incredible 4 years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.
"It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me.
"I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday."
Lucy thanked the Corrie crew and viewers for their support over the last few years.
She continued: "I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.
"Thank you so much for your support and love… can't wait to see what's in store for Bethany this year."
Coronation Street viewers flocked to Twitter to give their support to Lucy.
One viewer said: "One of the most promising young actresses in the country. Good luck with whatever you are moving on to."
"Cannot wait to see what the future holds for you, always supporting you no matter what thank you for everything," added another.
A third said: "I’m really upset your leaving but I’m sure what ever you decide to do next you’re going to be brilliant"
*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
