Corrie star addresses if she will return to soap & reveals exciting new project
Lucy Fallon rose to fame as Bethany Platt on Coronation Street, a role she portrayed for five years.
The soap star, 25, left the cobbles last year in the hopes of pursuing new projects, but the Covid-19 pandemic ultimately halted her plans.
‘It was very difficult,’ she told Metro.co.uk, ‘I literally left Corrie in January, and then we went into lockdown in March! It was hard at first, as I was used to working everyday and then going to doing nothing, but it was hard for everybody, so I didn’t feel like I was on my own.’
Lucy, who recently lent her voice to radio drama Sour Hall, now has a new project in the works, and it all sounds very exciting!
‘I have actually got something that is happening in the next couple of weeks I think,’ she said, ‘but I am not at liberty to say anything!’
Now we really need to know!
And that’s not the only super exciting project Lucy is taking part in, as she recently launched The Trafford Centre’s summer school campaign, which kicks off next week.
A bright yellow American-style school bus will pop up outside the centre, and will play host to a number of fun and interactive sessions, delivered by influencers and charities.
‘I was approached to take part and I really wanted to do it,’ explained Lucy. ‘Obviously, it’s important going back to school, college and uni after the year we’ve had when we’ve all been at home, it can be quite daunting.
‘For everybody the past year has been really tough, especially for young people. Not being able to see their friends and being at home. I just don’t know how I would’ve coped with it!
‘I think [this summer school event] will help people to see going back to school in more of a fun way rather than: “oh my god we’re going back to school, this is rubbish.” It makes it more of positive experience.
‘It’s more about giving young people the skills they need and the confidence they might need to go back [to school].
‘There are so many amazing things that are happening at the summer social. There are TikTok talks! Olly Ball and Jacob Pasquill are doing a Q and A. There are TikTok dance workshops, body positivity sessions, and confidence building. There are lots of different things for people to do.’
The summer social will run for almost a week, commencing August 29 and finishing on September 4.
‘I would definitely encourage people to come,’ said Lucy. ‘All the workshops are free, and it’s a drop in and out thing! So, if you’re in the Trafford Centre you can literally just come along and do the workshops and listen to the talks! And to make things even better, there’s a funfair right next door, so you could really make a full day of it!’
Lucy is best known to audiences as Coronation Street’s Bethany, who departed the cobbles last year to start an exciting new life in London. But did that fresh start pay off for Bethany?
‘Bethany would probably be at the back to school campaign at the Trafford centre!’, laughed Lucy. ‘I’m hoping she would still be at uni. Hopefully she’d still be cracking on with that!’
The actress departed the soap in search of new opportunities, but she was adamant that she would never say never to making an appearance on the serial drama in the future.
‘I mean, never say never!,’ she added. ‘Right now, I’ve got different things that are happening and I’m excited about. I left Corrie to do new things, I didn’t leave because I wanted to, I just felt like I needed to at that time.
‘I loved it! It was literally the best five years of my life, so I would never say: “I’d never go back!” because obviously, I totally would!’
The Trafford Centre’s summer school event kicks off on Sunday August 29 and runs until Saturday September 4. 12pm to 6pm daily.
