Corrie’s Les Battersby icon Bruce Jones’ live now – homelessness to co-star bond
Die-hard Coronation Street fans will remember the chaos which was caused by Les Battersby when he arrived in Weatherfield in 1997 alongside his wife Janice, his daughter Leanne and stepdaughter Toyah.
Turning the famous cobbles on its head with his menacing and conniving ways, Les, played by actor Bruce Jones, bought a touch of humour to the long-running ITV soap.
With the chaotic family causing chaos on the street, it was Les who was known to push boundaries and to take things a step too far.
One of the character's more memorable moments saw him headbutt Ken Barlow after he wrongly believed he was trying to seduce Toyah while Ken helped her with her additional English tuition.
Following Janice and Les' infamous split due to Janice finding love with Dennie Stringer, Les also formed a new relationship with Chesney and Fiz's mum, Cilla Brown.
But in 2007, actor Bruce faced suspension from Corrie after it came to light that he had told an undercover reporter about upcoming storylines and made inappropriate comments about the programme.
Though he was a staple character at the time, it was later announced that he would not be returning to the show.
Following his departure from the ITV soap, Bruce worked as a roadie for Irish tribute band ZZ Top O'The Morning.
But things reportedly took a turn for the worse in May 2010, after news emerged that Bruce was homeless after his £500,000 Cheshire home was repossessed by the bank in a bid to pay off his piling debts
His second property which he owned was repossessed the following year.
In 2013, Bruce appeared in Celebrity Big Brother where he was rumoured to had been paid only £15,000 to take part.
Two years later, the former Corrie star appeared on Channel 5's Celebs on Benefits: Fame to Claim, where he discussed his financial ruin and the reason why he was sacked from the famous street.
In more recent times, Bruce revealed that he still remains good friends with Vicky Entwistle, who played his on-screen wife Janice.
In 2020, the on-screen couple appeared together on Loose Women with Bruce admitting that meeting Vicky was his best memory from his time on Corrie.
He also shared that Vicky helped him through some of his more turbulent times including his struggles with alcoholism and debts.
Despite his struggles, Bruce is still acting and starred in the film Cold Sun alongside Tara Reid and Patrick Bergin.
