Deadpool 2's Super Duper Cut changes the ending
As if fans at the San Diego Comic-Con weren’t already having a great time, some of them have been treated to a brand new Deadpool exclusive.
Yes, the much-anticipated Super Duper Cut of Deadpool 2 has finally been unleashed upon the world in all its “longer, actionier, spandexier” glory and Comic-Con attendees got to see it first.
Screenrant reports that the new cut features at least three brand new scenes that extend the film by 15 minutes – and that much-talked-about post-credits sequence is very different too.
Remember the reports of that cut scene which featured Deadpool strangling a baby Adolf Hitler? Well that’s included in this cut, despite the fact that it was originally scrapped from the film as it made test audiences uncomfortable.
But that’s not the only new element of the post-credits sequence in the Super Duper Cut. Those scenes that saw Deadpool travel back in time to ‘right wrongs’ – including killing actor Ryan Reynolds before he got to read the Green Lantern script – have been lengthened as well.
And that gives us our biggest hint yet that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will return to the X-Men universe.
During the sequence, Deadpool travels back to the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and kills Wade Wilson and the Super Duper Cut sees that extended as Deadpool tells Wolverine that he’s “cleaning up the timeline”.
In this new version he then goes further, and drops hints for a future X-Men movie, telling Wolverine: “One day your old pal Wade’s gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. When he does, say yes.”
So is this a cheeky hint that Jackman might actually return as Wolverine for another X-Men movie or even a Deadpool film?
Although the actor has previously said that 2017’s Logan was his swansong, maybe he’d be tempted back by the opportunity to join the Merc with the Mouth and his X-Force team? Let’s face it, they’ve got some openings after the events of Deadpool 2.
It’s also now looking more likely that the X-Men could unite with the Avengers, as Comcast has dropped its plan to buy Fox’s entertainment platforms.
This means that the likelihood of a Disney-Fox merger has increased, which would mean rights to both sets of characters would be owned by the same company at last.
The new extended cut isn’t the only Deadpool news we’ve had from Comic-Con either, as it’s been revealed that the original plan for Deadpool 2 was to turn Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) into a villain.
It won’t be long until you can get your hands on a copy of the Super Duper Cut yourself, as it’s available for Digital Download on August 7 and is released on Blu-ray and DVD on August 21.
