Dominic Cooper reveals why working on Mamma Mia 2 was a "hilarious" experience
Preacher star Dominic Cooper has been discussing the return of Mamma Mia! – the sequel is appropriately titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – and, as you can probably imagine, he’s said that working with the likes of Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan is immensely fun.
The film will go back in time to explore Donna Sheridan’s past, yet will still feature scenes set in the present day. Cooper’s reprising his role as Skyler Rymand, the ex-boyfriend and fiancé of Donna’s daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).
“It was hilarious, it was like a French and Saunders send-up of the original; we were all 10 years older,” Cooper told The Telegraph.
And speaking about the first Mamma Mia! film – a huge box office success that brought in more than $600 million – Cooper detailed the on-set hilarity.
“I used to take the mick out of [Anthony Van Laast, the choreographer], because he would say, ‘Just throw your arms up in the air,'” said Cooper.
“I was like, ‘Are you serious, is that how you are going to choreograph this?’ But really, if you are going to get Pierce [Brosnan] or Colin [Firth] to dance like that it would be awful to choreograph them; the more loose and chaotic it is the better.
“It was astonishing, that first Mamma Mia! I had a jeep, I was living on an island, going on boats every day. I met Amanda [Seyfried], I was working with James Bond,” he added.
Recently, Cher – who will play the role of Donna’s mother in the sequel – said she didn’t even have to audition for the part.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again opens on July 20 in UK and US cinemas.
