The Durrells' Alexis Georgoulis gushes about real life chemistry with actress Keeley Hawes as he hints Spiro and Louisa might finally get together

The Greek actor, known as the George Clooney of Greece, appeared on today’s Lorraine to speak about the future for his character Spiro.

On the ITV show he plays Spiro, a close friend and taxi driver for The Durrell family, while Keeley plays matriarch Louisa Durrell.

Over the last two series viewers have watched Spiro and Louisa develop a very tight bond.

But in recent episodes they have grown even closer after Spiro suddenly finds himself single after being dumped by his wife.

Speaking about a potential romance between Spiro and Louisa, he teased: “I can't tell you, but the chemistry is there.

“The first shooting day with Keeley, I felt like we had good chemistry.”

He added: “When we shoot in Corfu we have such a great time, time flies.”

The actor is hoping there will be a third series of the show, but it’s yet to be confirmed.

“We hope there is another series, we don’t have it for sure but it seems to be very close,” he said.

Speaking previously to Whats On TV about his character’s wife walking out on him, he said: “He’s lonely because his wife has taken the children to Athens, the house is empty and he doesn’t have a clue if they’re going to come back or if he’s getting a divorce.

“It’s the biggest shock for him – his children are his life.”

And discussing what Louisa and Spiro would be like as a couple, he speculated: “They would have arguments and fiery moments because of the person Spiro is.

“But I think in their hearts they’re very alike – the attraction comes from the core.

“Even when they’re arguing and have different opinions, like with the situation with the Ferrari family, you don’t get the impression anything will break them.”

The Durrells is a drama mini series based on three autobiographical books by Gerald Durrell about the four years his family lived on the Greek island of Corfu from 1935 until 1939.
