Eamonn Holmes apologises as he breaches Covid rules on final This Morning show

This Morning: Ruth tells Eamonn off over lack of social distancing

Eamonn Holmes sparked a panic in the This Morning studio when he got up and walked over to guest Matthew Wright to look at his mullet. Matthew joined Eamonn and his wife Ruth Langsford on the ITV magazine show to speak about his new hair style, which he proudly showed off. Eamonn was keen to get a closer look at the style and got up to inspect Matthew’s longer locks. However, as he did so, both Ruth and the show’s bosses began shouting at him to social distance.

As Eamonn walked towards Matthew, clearly getting closer than two metres, Ruth shouted: “Get back! Get back!”

Just as the host reached out to touch Matthew’s hair, he quickly pulled his arm back and scuttled back to his seat.

“Sorry, I’m being told I’m breaking social distancing,” he said to viewers.

Those watching at home rushed to Twitter to comment on the incident with many finding it hilarious the presenter had broken rules on his final day hosting This Morning.

Ahead of Eamonn and Ruth’s final day presenting This Morning on a Friday, the presenter shared an emotional post on Instagram.

He posted a candid black and white photo of himself with Ruth at the National Television Awards with the caption: “We bow out of 15 years of our Friday slot on This Morning today.

“Thanks for the memories. I hope we made some for you too. Until February, May it be a Happy Christmas to you all.”

Eamonn and Ruth are going to be replaced by co-star Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

After the news was confirmed earlier this month, the couple wished Alison and Dermot “good luck” with their new roles.

They posted on Twitter: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.

“We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a Ball you two!

“It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term.”
